Port of Portland, Terminal 1 Demolition, Portland, OR
September 2002. Demolition of Terminal 1 in Portland is now 50% complete. Staton Companies, of Eugene, OR, was selected to clear the way for a new, upscale, water front residential complex. The project, developed by a local private investment company, needed a quick start, and swift demolition schedule to fit the available regulatory work window over water. Two buildings totaling 98,000 SF, a water tower and a 1200 LF X 100 LF (120,000 SF) wood, steel and concrete dock on the Willamette River are being cleared away for new construction. Staton mobilized company owned equipment to perform the work. Buildings, water tower and upper dock structure were dismantled, and removed, using various excavators from a PC-400 to a PC-120. The lower dock structure and piling is being removed with a 70 ton P&H Crane and handled on the ground with fork lift’s. Staton expects to recycle 810,000 BF of treated and untreated wood, 6600 tons of concrete and asphalt, and 650 tons of metal. Land filled debris and materials are expected to be less than 900 tons. Demolition is scheduled for completion by October 31, 2002. To have your project featured, contact Herb Duane at herb@rubblemakers.com |
